Is there a Bloemfontein LAN Scene?

OC Management have finalised the details for their first Bloemfontein event in March 2012. Although, is it the right thing to host a LAN and then find out if there are gamers in Bloemfontein?

We're in a bit of a predicament. Having looked around on forums, Facebook and just generally asked around, it seems that Bloemfontein LANers do exist, it just seems there are no events for them to go to.

But we're not just hoping the gamers will arrive if we ask nicely. In order to really push the message, we will be setting up a small stand at one of the local shopping centres - Mimosa Mall. We'll be driving through and having a Saturday gaming session with flyers, a mini tournament with some prizes to get some attention. We're still waiting on dates from the mall, but one weekend or another we're gonna be there.

Why Bloemfontein? After having pulled off a beautifully setup and terribly attended JHB LAN at the Gallagher Estate in December 2010 (we setup for 1100 people, and got about 250 ) we took the decision that it would be best to start off small in other cities and grow the various gaming communities as we go along, much like we did in Cape Town. After all, OC was running 260 man LAN's for a long time before it suddenly jumped to 600 people per month.

Bloemfontein is centrally located, a relatively easy drive from JHB which may encourage some weekend imports from that side. The venue we have chosen is also able to provide us with a biggggger venue should things suddenly begin spinning out of control.

At this time we'll be hosting a 200 man LAN, with the venue chosen being able to accomodate 280 gamers comfortable. We'll start with 100 of each type of seat, R150 for 100m/bit and R200 for Gigabit.

We're sending a call-out to all Bloemfontein gamers, please register and book on our website for what we hope will be the first of many Bloemfontein OC's to go. Let us know if you guy- and girl-Bloem-gamers are out there!

Bye for now,

Treath
