Bellville Velodrome LANs coming to an end March 2012

Important Information to all of our loyal gamers that have come to call OC at Bellville Velodrome their gaming haunt!

Bellville Velodrome has been the home of Organised Chaos since March 2008... This is poised to change as the City of Cape Town reaches the final stages of the handover process to a private developer who intends to develop the area into a commercial "2nd CBD for Cape Town"

According to an article originally from the TygerBurger Newspaper, and then re-discussed on a forum, the site is in fact supposed to be under re-development already, having received various council approvals and other approval requirements.

Yet the rumour mill is wild with speculation. Anonymous sources tell me that there are a few pressing issues holding the project back:

  1. The entire area hasn't actually been re-zoned
  2. There is a mandatory "good faith deposit" that is as of yet unpaid
  3. The cycling and athletics clubs have iron clad contracts in place which effectively force the new development to ensure their sports clubs can continue to use the facility.

Amongst all of these happenings, OC amongst some other sports and recreational activities are being held in suspense as the venue management stops giving out dates past March 2012.

In the meantime, we have prepared an alternative venue for our monthly events which will suit up to 500 people. This might be a small step backwards, but arrangements for taking June and December Events to an even bigger venue is also underway.
